Who Am I?

Thanks for the visit! I'm Debra Torres, wife, mother of five and freelance copywriter.

My family and I live in rural Western Pa., and I'm forever interested in making connections between my life experiences, and the personal touch of our living God.

This fall marks my 30th year since making a life-changing decision to follow Jesus Christ.

I like to write about the "real" Christian experience. Nothing fake or picture perfect here. I lose my temper, have a messy kitchen sink, and I've got dust bunnies under my bed just like most of you.

What's that someone once said? "Christians aren't perfect ... just forgiven." It's true you know, and the key is in the relationship. God wants all of us, all the time. Not just when we're smiling in our pews.

Currently, on top of helping my husband raise our active brood of kids, I work from home as a freelance writer. I write and design websites, newsletters and brochures. And I'm also a columnist for our local newspaper and a Christian devotional blogger for great folks like you.

I always figured that when I was old and gray, I'd start my writing career. After all, the bios of some of my favorite authors say that they're either parents of teens or in the grandparenting stage. But a few years ago, I started to get the "itch." And God started opening some doors. It was time to start writing again, and I knew it.

My B.A. in Communication and my M.A. in Journalism help me daily to write and relate to people on a professional level. And, my five kids, my interests in Christian living,  gardening and cooking all work together to "spice up" what I write.

Recently, I read a blog post written by a man who has no faith in God. He believes that there is nothing to look forward to when this life is over. The man had a large following of readers, and I was saddened that his bleak message was mixed in to his writing.

I was inspired to write a Christian devotional blog that gives people hope.

So here we are. Cozy up and enjoy. Most of all, may your journey with Christ be all that God intends it to be.
